Three Views Which one is best for you?
The choice of a view depends upon what you are looking for, and to some
degree, your level of familiarity with the National ITS Architecture.
Hypertext View- "Easy Navigation"
The hypertext view provides easy navigation through the various elements
of the architecture, and is recommended for users just getting familiar with
the architecture. Using the hypertext architecture is also a good means to
find all information pertaining to a specific application domain or subject
of interest (such as Traffic Management), as the hyperlinks traverse across
the various levels of the architecture.
The focus of the hypertext view is on architecture definition. Other areas
of the architecture, (e.g., Cost, Performance, Risk) are not
included. If your interest is outside of architecture definition, then you need
to consider using the other views.
The hypertext view also contains a variety of key architecture graphics
that you can easily copy and modify for your own use.
Document View- "Everything About the Architecture – If You Know Where To Look"
The document view contains all the documentation for the National ITS Architecture.
If you’re looking for information pertaining to the origins of the National ITS
Architecture, the processes used to develop the architecture, design objectives,
implementation strategy, etc., this is the view to use. Note that architecture
definition can also be found in the documents, but this type of information is
distributed throughout several different documents, so unless you are a seasoned user
of the Architecture, it’s best to start with the hypertext view for this.
The document view also contains a wealth of graphics and tables that you can
copy and paste into your own documents. Be aware though, that these will be
in bitmap format, which are not easily editable should you wish to modify them.
Database View- "Access to Raw Data in Relational Tables"
The database view gives you access to the Physical and Logical architecture
databases that contain the raw data used to develop and manage the National ITS
Architecture. With this data, you can develop your own architecture based
upon a subset of the National Architecture. A word of warning here! Before
using the databases to sort information or build your own tables, be sure that you
understand the data relationships in the Physical and Logical architecture database
tables. It is recommended that only users accustomed to working with relational
databases use this view to manipulate data.
